Starting an affiliate site is a fairly simple and inexpensive way to earn extra income on the Internet. Just about anyone can start their own site in a couple days for under $50. Sites can be managed independently or associated with larger companies such as Amazon or Google. The only absolute necessities are a computer with an internet connection and a credit card with at least $20 available credit.
Anyone considering starting an affiliate site should begin by:
• Learning basic HTML code. Affiliates usually don’t need to build the entire site from scratch but in order to run a quality site they must know how to insert images, format text and create hyperlinks.
• Deciding on a topic. It must be something you’re passionate and knowledgeable about. The topic must also be somewhat specialized. If the subject is too vague it will not work out, there are simply too many Web sites out there.
• Choosing a domain name. Obviously choices will be limited by those that are available but there are still plenty out there that will pertain to any topic. Be creative and try to include as many keywords as possible.
The next step in starting an affiliate site is to register the chosen domain name. Domain names can easily be registered via web-hosting services. There are also dozens of domain providers that will provide names at even lower prices. Procuring a domain name through a low cost provider will add an additional step to the affiliate program set-up but it will be worth it, especially for those who may want to start more than one site.
