Pay per click affiliates make money off of banner ads on their
sites. Each time a user clicks on such an ad they are directed
to the appropriate site. Advertisers track the number of visitors
to their sites and where they come from. Each time they receive
a hit from one of their pay per click affiliates they are obligated
to pay some sort of commission.
Other types of affiliate sites get paid solely based on the traffic
their sites receive. Some get commission only when a costumer
makes a purchase on a vendor’s site. Pay per click affiliates
are kind of a combination of both. The more traffic they receive
the better, but advertisements must be appealing to their users
in order for them to get paid.
One problem with pay per click affiliates is that the system
is open to click fraud. For example, affiliates could hire people
to constantly click on certain links that they know will make
them money. Major corporations have developed automated systems
designed to protect against click fraud. The pay per click advertising
model is widely used in conjunction with search engines as well.
